The modern world is built on the synthesis of all the fields of engineering brought together. No created product can be called the result of an exclusive branch of engineering. Polymers are a growing industry and the demand for qualified polymer engineers is growing too. The market for polymers is in excess of USD 1 Trillion and that number is growing. With ground-breaking research occurring within the field, Polymer Engineering is entering newer areas such as electronics, biodegradable plastics, medical equipment and utility. Thus, the need for competent and able polymer engineers has never been higher.

The MIT-WPU School of Polymer engineering is one the first private Polymer engineering schools in the country. We offer an undergraduate B.Tech program delivered by a highly qualified faculty utilizing our state-of-the-art facilities. The course is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of Polymer Science and Engineering (PSE) along with extensive exposure to the latest advances and technologies in polymer industry through multiple industry visits. Our department prides itself on its research wing and quite a few patents have issued forth from our department! Various government organizations and universities are currently funding us on a variety of projects.

Programme Highlights

  • Polymer Students’ Association, a student body which has been in existence since last three decades, has been organizing national level paper presentation competition “Affinity” and Industry-Institute meet “Confluence” for more than a decade.

  • Student Events- Polymer Engineering Students participate in technical events such as Techfest, Rangostav, Supra, Baha, etc. and sports events such as Zest, Melange, Summit, etc. organized by other institutes at MIT-WPU.

  • Study tours are organized by the School. They are encouraged to visit national level exhibitions such as Plasti-Vision and Plast-India.

  • Internships-The School of Polymer Engineering provides opportunities for internships and placements in industry and research organizations.

  • Alumni Network- The School has a strong alumni spread across sectors in Polymer Engineering in India and all across the globe contributing to the field. The alumni are a great asset in terms of their contribution to the School for internship, mentoring of the current students, placement and support to projects.

Provide World-class undergraduate Engineering curriculum comprising of –

  • Foundation : Basic Engineering Sciences

  • Core : Chemical , Mechanical and Polymer Engineering, Material Science , Tool and Product Design

  • Electives : Rubber Technology, Fiber Technology, Packing Technology, Waste Management, Surface Coating etc.

  • Unique Courses related to World Peace: Yoga and Meditation, Scientific Studies of Peace, Mind, Spirit and Consciousness along with Live Projects

Programme Structure

  • First year provides foundation course related to Science and Engineering. Design is a creative activity central to the engineering profession; students in very first year are exposed to design thinking. Social internship in first year is credit based and exposes the students to the problems faced by community. This is expected to sow the seeds of socially oriented innovation in the student’s mind.
  • Second year courses are designed to provide grounding in basic engineering sciences from the chosen disciplines. Summer internship at the end of second year involves guided study tour. The tour will expose the student to our diverse culture, technology achievements and challenges.
  • Third and fourth years include subjects belonging to the chosen track in his/her own branch. International study tour of four weeks duration will offer global exposure whereas semester long industry internship in the final year will offer real life industry experience. Capstone project in the eighth semester and inter-disciplinary project in the seventh semester will inculcate problem solving skills, team spirit, professional ethics and habit of self-learning.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria

For Maharashtra State Candidate :

    • Candidate should be an Indian National and should have passed HSC (10+2) examination of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject

      AND

    • Secured minimum 50% in the subjects Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry taken together for Maharashtra Open category students and 45% for the reserved Category Maharashtra domicile students while the aggregate percentage of marks in all the subjects of the qualifying HSC (10+2) examinations should be 50% or above.

      AND

    • Obtained a positive score in MHT-CET (2018) and/or JEE Main (2018) on score basis.

For All India Candidates :

    • Candidates should be an Indian National and should have passed a Higher Secondary Education (10+2) or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject

      AND

    • Secured a minimum 50% in the subjects Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry taken together while the aggregate percentage of marks in all the subjects of the qualifying examinations should be 50% and above.

      AND

    • Obtained a positive score in JEE Main (2018) on score basis.

Reservation:

    • 70% seats are reserved for Maharashtra Domicile candidates through MHT-CET 2018 and 30 % seats are reserved for All India Candidates through JEE (Mains) 2018.

    • Reservation as per norms of Government applicable for 2018-2019.
