M. Tech- Computer Science & Engineering

The M. Tech. program in Computer Science and Engineering is offered to students who are interested in advanced learning and research in the area of Computer Science and Engineering.

Applicants to this program are expected to have a background in Computer Engineering or Information Technology. The M. Tech. program aims at preparing the students to take up application, and research & development activities in core and emerging areas in Computer Science. The School provides two kinds of M. Tech streams:

1. M. Tech in Data Science and Analytics (DSA):

This program provides advanced level courses in Data Mining, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Security and Privacy and Ubiquitous Computing.

2. M. Tech in Network Management and Cyber security (NMCS):

This program provides advanced level courses in Advanced Computer Networks, Distributed Computing, Network Management, Digital Forensics, and Applied Cryptography.

The M. Tech program aims at equipping the graduates, with advanced conceptual knowledge, technical skills and ability to pursue research in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, appropriate to the present ICT scenario. Apart from the core courses, the student may choose electives depending on their interests. The structure and syllabus contents are categorized as Engineering Core, Departmental Core, Departmental Electives, Humanities and World Peace Program, Self-Study and Online Learning.

M. Tech is a 2 years full time study Program which provides a rewarding career in engineering and technology world.

Duration:   Two Years, Full Time Program
Pattern: Trimester System, Six Trimesters
Total Credits: Sixty-Six

MIT-WPU Method for Academics

Assessment

Evaluation pattern: Continuous evaluation, Mid-Trimester Examination, End Trimester Examination.

The continuous assessment of all the courses of M. Tech course shall consist of assignments/case studies/tests/presentations.

The continuous assessment of theory course shall be evaluated on the basis of the class tests/assignments/case studies/quizzes. There will be minimum two assignments for each theory course. The individual student will also be evaluated based on attendance, class behaviour and discipline.

End Semester Examination:

The End Semester Examination for the theory courses shall be conducted at the end of the Course work and it will be of 50 marks.

Ph. D. (Computer Science & Engineering)

With an aim to foster high quality research, the MIT-WPU School of Computer Science & Engineering renders the best of technical expertise coupled with research competence. The programme is tailored to sharpen the candidate’s skill set thus facilitating the genesis of substantial and distinct research.

Programme Structure

Following courses shall be a part of the Ph.D. program: Research Methodology, Research Proposal, Review Seminar, Mathematics for Engineering Research and Advances in Computer Engineering.

After admission, each Ph.D. student shall be required to undertake Course Work for a minimum period of one semester. The Course Work shall be offered with credit system and will be treated as pre- Ph.D. preparation. The total credit requirement for entire course work shall be 20 credits. Students are required to earn these 20 credits in maximum two semesters.

Mathematics for Engineering Research will be based on the Advance topics from Engineering Mathematics. It will consist of minimum 15 units of 2 credits each. Contents for the Branch Specific Topics will be based on the advanced topics/technology pertaining to the branch. It will consist of minimum of 10 units with 2 credits each.

The students shall be required to earn the credit for 2 units from Mathematics for Engineering Research and 3 units from Branch Specific Topics, related to their area of research, selected in consultation with the Guide and approved by the Head of Research Centre.
Date of registration will be after successful completion of Course Work.

Assessment

Evaluation pattern: Continuous evaluation, End Semester Examination, End Semester Presentation.

End Semester Examination (ESE):

The End Semester Examination for the theory courses shall be conducted at the end of Course work. It shall weigh 100 marks and span a three hours duration.

End Semester Presentation:

The Research Progress Monitoring Committee duly constituted by the Head of Research Center, shall review the End Semester Presentation and assign marks.

Synopsis:

Negotiation is the process of exchanging information among interested parties in order to find an agreement satisfying requirements of these parties. Different fields such as decision and game theory, management and social sciences, artificial intelligence and agent technology, study the problem of negotiation from different perspectives. Today, e-commerce is characterized by dynamic trade. Its role has not only been confined to provide trading places and related information for the buyers and sellers, but has changed from a simple trade matcher to a price coordinator. The tremendous successes of online auctions show that the dynamic trade based on e-negotiation will gradually become the core of e-commerce. Traditionally, e-negotiation processes have been carried out by humans registering themselves at certain web pages, placing bids and making offers through fill-in forms, and receiving counter-offers of other participants by updating the respective web pages. One major drawback of this human-centred way of e-negotiation is that the underlying processes are not explicitly modelled and the knowledge and experience are kept within the human minds. The next step towards automated e-negotiation systems is to be achieved through software agents that act as automated participants in the e-marketplace. It is the direction of development for the e-commerce automated trade. Its main principle is using software agent technology to make the process of negotiation to be a part or full automation. The purpose is improving the efficiency of online negotiations and reducing costs of trade.

The emergence of new electronically conducted forms for decision making processes, like multidimensional auctions, more and more show that the traditional auctions are just a subclass of the negotiation protocols possible. Negotiation protocols do not only include single issue negotiation in some form of bidding process (i. e. auctions) but also protocols like bilateral bargaining or multi-bilateral negotiations, where the participants engage in multiple bilateral negotiations with many other parties. Therefore for the rest of this report auctions are assumed to be a subclass of all possible negotiation protocols. There are two relatively distinct types of negotiation. The two types are known as Distributive negotiations and Integrative negotiations. There are many different tactics that are commonly used in the negotiation process. All of them have their place, and many of the methods that have been popularized are specialized for specific types of negotiation. The level of detail the best negotiators put into understanding the human mind and how to use certain tones of voice coupled with specific tactics to lead the other party in the direction that they would like them to head is, to say the least, quite impressive. Just knowing the tactics is only half the battle, but putting them into effective use can be tricky if you do not know how to properly propose them. A few of the more common tactics that are used in negotiations include: Nibbling, Outright Refusal, Conditioning, and Calling Bluffs.

Conclusion and Future Scope

The main objective of this research is to make automated negotiation possible which has been achieved though with some limitations. The system is capable of automated negotiation in some predefined situations. User interaction is only required at the beginning of negotiation process to specify its requirements which are given as input to the agents saving the precious time of user. More efficient and realistic agent behaviour strategies have been suggested and used. Prediction of partner’s behaviours in negotiation has been an active research direction in recent years and our research presents an online learning approach about other agents’ preferences with only the history of offers of current negotiation encounter. This prediction mechanism will further improve the efficiency of the negotiation system and can be used to find the optimal offer increasing the benefit of both the parties involved. However both the fields of automated negotiation and behaviour prediction are in their initial stages of development and no such software or application is available for the simulation of these processes.

Humanoid Robot NAO as a Companion to Senior Citizens

Now a days, the number of senior citizens is increasing due to superior lifestyles, and availability of medicines and treatments resulting from modern technologies and research. At the same time, senior citizens are facing problems like lack of companions; lack of assistance in their day-to -day work, and lack of support and care. This loneliness and need for assistance can be served by NAO, a humanoid robot that can be programmed for performing various tasks. The project theme is to program NAO using IBM Watson in such a way that it will work as a personal assistant and companion for a senior citizen. The motivation behind this project is to make use of technology for social cause.

NAO is a humanoid robot developed by French company Aldebaran (now taken over by Softbank Robotics). A humanoid is a robot with its body shape built to resemble the human body. A humanoid robot has a torso, a head, two arms, two legs and it converses like a human being using Artificial Intelligence.

The functionalities developed in this project are – Conversing with a senior citizen based on his / her mood, Reading a newspaper, Recognizing face / object, Information retrieval, Setting of reminders, Entertainment, etc. The research areas covered in this project are Machine Learning, Cognitive Computing and Natural Language Processing.

Eligibility for B.Tech

For Maharashtra State Candidate :

    • Candidate should be an Indian National and should have passed HSC (10+2) examination of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject

      AND

    • Secured minimum 50% in the subjects Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry taken together for Maharashtra Open category students and 45% for the reserved Category Maharashtra domicile students while the aggregate percentage of marks in all the subjects of the qualifying HSC (10+2) examinations should be 50% or above.

      AND

    • Obtained a positive score in MHT-CET (2018) and/or JEE Main (2018) on score basis.

For All India Candidates :

    • Candidates should be an Indian National and should have passed a Higher Secondary Education (10+2) or its equivalent examination with subjects English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject

Selection Criteria

Selection is based purely on the basis of candidate’s performance in the Entrance Examination and Interaction with Research Committee. Entrance Examination shall be based on following courses – Research Methodology, Engineering Mathematics and Core subjects of Computer Engineering. During interaction with the Research Committee, the potential and viability of the research problem at hand shall be assessed, while also gauging the candidate’s understanding of the problem.
